Description:4'-Butoxyacetophenone is a white crystalline solid. It has been synthesized in two steps from piperidine hydrochloride, pyridine, and benzyl chloride. The first step involved the acetylation of 4'-butoxyacetophenone with acetic anhydride and pyridine in order to introduce the phenolic group. The second step involved the transfer of the paraformaldehyde group from paraformaldehyde to 4'-butoxyacetophenone with sodium cyanoborohydride and sodium bicarbonate. The reaction was completed by adding acetonitrile to remove traces of water.
