Product Information

Name:
Bis(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) Terephthalate
Synonyms:
  • DLCTerephthalic Acid Bis[4-(methoxycarbonyl)phenyl] Ester
Description:

Bis(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) terephthalate is a high molecular weight, water-insoluble polymer with a high melting point. It has been used as a coating material and in the production of coatings for food packaging, such as bread wrappers. This polymer is also used in the manufacture of plasma display panels and as an additive to plastics. Bis(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) terephthalate has shown cellular transformation properties in tissue culture and may be useful in the study of biological processes. In addition, this polymer has been shown to have a metastable form that can be converted into its thermodynamically stable form by laser ablation or chemical reactions at elevated temperatures. The reaction mechanism for this process is not well understood but it may involve zirconium oxide intermediates. Bis(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) terephthalate exhibits thermal expansion properties that are similar to those of
