7-Bromo-5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline (BCHQ) is a drug that has been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro. It has been found to bind to the matrix of the cancer cells and inhibit their growth. It also binds to plasma proteins, which may reduce its bioavailability. BCHQ has demonstrated chemotherapeutic activity against tuberculosis in vivo and in vitro, but it has not yet been clinically developed for this indication. When given orally, 7-Bromo-5-chloro-8-hydroxyquinoline inhibits protein synthesis in Sprague Dawley rats by a mechanism that requires methionine aminopeptidase activity. It can be detected in urine samples using LC/MS/MS methods.
