Product Information
2-Bromo-7-tert-butylpyrene is a spirobifluorene with two chromophores, a 7-tert-butyl group and a bromine atom. The 7-tert-butyl group has an intramolecular energy transfer to the bromine atom, which leads to fluorescence emission in the red region of the spectrum. The emission of this compound is shifted to longer wavelengths when it interacts with other molecules such as solvents or proteins. This is due to the electron being excited from its ground state to an excited state by interaction with another molecule. 2-Bromo-7-tert-butylpyrene can be used as a model compound for studying intramolecular energy transfer and fluorescence emission.
