N-Butylbenzenesulfonamide is a biocompatible polymer that can be used for wastewater treatment. The polymer has been shown to adsorb sodium ions from water and form sodium salts, which are then removed by filtration or sedimentation. This polymer has also been shown to adsorb metal ions such as iron, manganese, lead, and mercury. N-Butylbenzenesulfonamide can be used in analytical chemistry for the extraction of organic compounds from soil samples and the determination of their chemical properties. It is an example of a compound class called sulfonamides that binds to bacterial receptor activity with acetate extract as its reaction mechanism. N-Butylbenzenesulfonamide has been shown to have thermal expansion properties that allow it to be used in flexible polyurethane foam insulation.
