2,2-Bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)butane (BPHE) is a chemical compound that has been used to study the effect of various factors on the glomerular filtration rate and locomotor activity. The compound is chemically stable and exhibits no receptor activity. BPHE has been shown to be effective in wastewater treatment as an additive in sodium citrate solution. It is also used as a polymerase chain reaction sample preparation reagent and as a matrix effect modifier in vitro assays. BPHE can be analyzed using analytical methods such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
