This substance is also used to make fluorescent nanoparticles that have applications in chemistry and biotechnology. 2,7-Bis(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)-9,9-dihexylfluorene can be labeled with β cyclodextrin for use in biocompatible labeling of molecules. The emission wavelength ranges from 500 nm to 600 nm with an excitation wavelength of 280 nm. The fluorescence of this substance is quenched by bromoalkyl groups.
