Bis(4-bromophenyl)acetylene (BBA) is an alkynyl compound that is synthesized by coupling of the bromine and acetylene. The synthesis was performed using a reflux reaction with decaborane as the catalyst and viologen as the oxidizing agent. A polymer was synthesized from BBA by reacting it with ruthenium chloride in a reflux reaction. Bis(4-bromophenyl)acetylene reacts with trichloride to form dichloride and also reacts with chloroform to produce hydrochloric acid.
