It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of carbaryl, which is used as an insecticide. 6-Bromobenzo-(1,3)-dioxole-5-carboxylic acid has also been shown to inhibit the biosynthesis of berberine in plants. This compound can be synthesized by reacting noradrenaline with hydrobromic acid or deuterium oxide.
