It has also been found to inhibit the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) in human glioma cells and in a rat model of cerebral ischemia. This compound may be used as a potential chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of cancer. 2-Bromo-5-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde inhibits cell proliferation by inducing apoptosis, or programmed cell death, which may be due to its ability to suppress MMP activity.
