BAM-12P is a metalloendopeptidase that catalyzes the cleavage of the C-terminal dipeptide from vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and enkephalins. It has been shown to be active in the human bladder as a sephadex g-100 binding agent, which can be used to measure activity of this enzyme. BAM-12P also has physiological activities; it has been shown to have an acidic pH optimum, and its amino acid analysis reveals that it is an acidic molecule. In addition, BAM-12P has a biological function that is related to adrenorphin and vasoactive intestinal peptide.
