Bradykinin (1-7) is a peptide hormone that is produced by the kininase enzyme, which cleaves bradykinin from its precursor, kininogen. Bradykinin is an important regulator of inflammation and vasodilation. It is released by mast cells in response to allergens, histamine, and other stimuli. Bradykinin (1-7) has been shown to be an important mediator of exudate formation in the lung. The exudates are produced when activated mast cells release histamine and other substances that stimulate local blood flow and activate vascular endothelium. Bradykinin (1-7) has also been found to have anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandins.
