Brandioside is a potent inhibitor of the growth of cancer cells. It inhibits the proliferation of muscle cells and skin cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of growth factors. Brandioside also has pharmacokinetic properties that have been studied by liquid chromatography methods. Brandioside is a glycosidic bond in which a hydroxy group is covalently attached to one or more hydroxyl groups on a sugar molecule. It belongs to the family Verbenaceae and genus Erythrostemon. The plant was first found in South Africa and has since been found in other regions including Costa Rica and Brazil.
