Bilobetin is a natural compound that has antioxidative properties. It can be found in an acetate extract of the fruit of Myrtus communis L. Bilobetin has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on cancer cells, as well as an ability to reduce the size of the cancerous tumor. Bilobetin contains a hydroxyl group and is synthesized from fatty acids. It also has probiotic bacteria-stimulating activity, which may be due to its ability to stimulate the growth of Lactobacillus species. Bilobetin may also help with coronary heart diseases by reducing blood cholesterol levels and lowering serum triglyceride levels, which are both associated with this disease. Bilobetin is a phenolic acid that can be detected using analytical methods such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
