Brazilin is a natural compound that inhibits the bcl-2 protein, which prevents apoptosis. Brazilin has been shown to have ischemic preconditioning properties in the kidney and to be hepatoprotective against injury. It has also been shown to have chemiluminescent properties and dna binding activity. Brazilin has been found to reduce inflammation by inhibiting the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) pathway, which is responsible for signaling inflammatory responses from the body.
