NBDOT binds to protein targets in the mitochondria and inhibits their function. This leads to an increase in free fatty acids and endocannabinoids, as well as potent inhibition of CB1 receptor activity. These activities have been demonstrated using in vivo studies on rats. NBDOT also has a potent inhibitory effect on fatty acid amide hydrolase, which is involved in the degradation of endocannabinoids.
