Product Information

Name:
1H-Benzotriazole-1-methanol
Synonyms:
  • Benzotriazolemethanol
  • 1H-benzotriazol-1-ylmethanol
Description:

1H-Benzotriazole-1-methanol is a bidentate ligand that can be used as a corrosion inhibitor. It reacts with anions to form hydrogen bonds, which are the driving force for its inhibitory effect. 1H-Benzotriazole-1-methanol has been shown to inhibit the rate of reaction of β-unsaturated ketones with aryl halides. It also has electrochemical properties that make it suitable for use in potentiodynamic polarization experiments. This compound may be synthesized by the Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation of benzoic acid and hydroxybenzaldehyde, which leads to a high yield and low energy requirements.
