Boscalid is a fungicide that inhibits the growth of fungi by interfering with their energy metabolism. It binds to the active site of the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase and prevents electron transfer, leading to an accumulation of reactive oxygen species and cell death. Boscalid has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of fungi, but not against resistant strains. This compound has been shown to have bactericidal activity on a matrix effect in bacteria. Boscalid has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis and DNA replication. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique can be used for determining sensitivity levels in fungi.
