Bromodifluoroacetyl chloride is an industrial chemical that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It can be used to generate dibromoethane and hydrogen fluoride, which can be used to synthesize other chemicals. Bromodifluoroacetyl chloride has been shown to react with dichloroethylene and chlorine gas to form chloromethyl ethers, which are useful in the production of polymers. Bromodifluoroacetyl chloride also reacts with alkali metals such as sodium and potassium to give chlorides. Bromodifluoroacetyl chloride can react with primary amines at low temperatures to produce sulfides. Bromodifluoroacetyl chloride is a colorless liquid that displays vibrational bands at about 2200 cm-1.
