This compound is an electrophilic reactive reagent. It is a neurotoxic chemical that inhibits serine protease activity and is used as a pharmacological agent for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. 1-(2-Bromoethoxy)-4-fluorobenzene has been shown to have neurotoxic effects in rats, as evidenced by the maximal rotarod test. This compound also inhibits amide formation, which may be due to its ability to react with serine proteases.
