Description:1-[3,5-Bis(Trifluoromethyl)Phenyl]-2-Bromo-Ethanone (1) crystallizes from ether as a light yellow solid. The compound is readily soluble in ether, chloroform, and benzene but sparingly soluble in ethanol and methanol. 1 has been characterized by IR, UV-VIS, and mass spectroscopy. It reacts with acetophenone to form the crystalline adducts 2 and 3. Crystals of 1 are noncentrosymmetric with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit and space group P21/n. Dimers 4 and 5 can be formed from 1 by reaction with acetophenone or by heating.
