It is catalyzed by nucleophilic allylic oxidation to produce the nitro group. 4-Oxododecanedioic acid has been used as a monomer in the synthesis of polymers such as polyurethanes and polyesters. This compound also has anion conjugates that are stabilized by an electron withdrawing group on one side of the double bond and an electron donating group on the other side.
