Description:

2-Chlororesorcinol is a natural compound that is found in the bark of the East Indian tree, Cinchona officinalis. It has been shown to be an effective anticancer drug due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of DNA and RNA in cancer cells. 2-Chlororesorcinol also demonstrates strong reactive properties, which make it useful as a precursor for other compounds. When mixed with hydrochloric acid, it will react with an ethyl group from ethanol to form vinyl alcohol and chloroethanol. The benzyl groups on this molecule can be replaced by other functional groups to create new molecules with different properties. 2-Chlororesorcinol can also be used cosmetically as a protectant against ultraviolet radiation.
2-Chlororesorcinol's photocatalytic activity has been shown using surface methodology techniques. It absorbs light at wavelengths between 300 nm and 400 nm and releases electrons that are used to break down organic
