- Pyridine, 4-chloro-3-nitro-
The 4-Chloro-3-nitropyridine (4CNP) is a drug that has been modified to contain a nitro group. It is a multidrug that binds to the CB2 receptor and the benzodiazepine receptor. The 4CNP has shown to induce apoptosis in MCF-7 cells. It was synthesized by coupling chloropyridines with palladium catalysts, followed by nitration of the resulting product. The reaction mechanism for this transformation involves nucleophilic attack of chloride on the nitro group, which sets off an elimination reaction, yielding nitrosochloropyridine. This compound then undergoes hydrolysis to produce 4-chloro-3-nitropyridine. The two isomers produced are 4CNP and 4CNPTN, which have different effects on the body.
