2-Chloro-1-propene is a chemical compound that can undergo chlorination to form 1,2-dichloroethane. This reaction is catalyzed by metal hydroxides, chlorine atom, and oxidation catalyst. The reaction produces 2-chloro-1-propene as a byproduct. The resulting product is then oxidized to produce the aromatic hydrocarbon, which is used in the production of sodium hydroxide solution, hydroxide solution, and other chemicals.
The nucleophilic attack of the chlorine atom on the hydrogen chloride ion forms an ionic bond between them. The hydrogen fluoride ion then reacts with this new molecule to form an alkyl halide and water. This process results in a model system for the formation of organic compounds from hydrogen chloride and hydrogen fluoride ions.
