Description:Trans-Cyclobutane-1,2-dicarbonitrile (TCBD) is a monomer that can be used as an intermediate in the production of acrylonitrile. It is also used as a bifunctional material to isomerize adiponitrile to 2-cyanoethylene oxide and hydrogenate it to 1,4-butanediol. TCBD has been shown to stabilize petroleum products such as gasoline and jet fuel by removing oxygen from the hydrocarbons during combustion. TCBD has been shown to be an effective catalyst for reactions involving zirconium, which can be used in nuclear power plants or for the removal of heavy metals from water.
