Product Information
2-Chloroethyl isothiocyanate (2CITC) is an organic compound that is used as a pesticide. It has been shown to be toxic to animals, including humans, and inhibits population growth in vitro. The mechanism of action of 2CITC involves its ability to react with amines and form stable, reactive methylene compounds that can bind to the chloride ion receptor site on the hydrogen atom. This binding results in a conformational change that prevents the chloride ion from binding to the hydrogen receptor, which leads to increased excitability of neurons and death. 2CITC also inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase, leading to increased acetylcholine levels at synapses.
