Calcium chloride dihydrate has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of various cancer cells, including prostate cancer cells. This inhibition has been shown to be due to its ability to significantly cytotoxic effects on these cells. The cytotoxicity was found to be due to lysosomal membrane permeabilization and Ca2+ influx into the cell leading to apoptosis induction.
