Carbazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound with the molecular formula C(N)H. It is used as an antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. The compound has been shown to have antioxidative properties in human serum and to have a redox potential that is close to that of glutathione. Carbazole also has biological properties, such as the ability to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to bacterial DNA. In addition, carbazole inhibits the production of nitric oxide (NO), which is important for many biological processes including vasodilation and neurotransmission.
