2-Chloroheptafluoropropane is a gaseous chemical that is used as a refrigerant. It has been shown to react with hydrogen fluoride and chlorine in the liquid phase at temperatures below -78°C, producing cyanogen chloride. 2-Chloroheptafluoropropane is also known to react with gamma-aminobutyric acid in xenopus oocytes to produce chloride ions.
2-Chloroheptafluoropropane can be recycled, which reduces the need for new resources for the production of the chemical. The use of 2-chloroheptafluoropropane as a refrigerant lowers the operating temperature and saves energy costs, while reducing emissions of ozone-depleting chemicals.
