The redox cycle of this compound is coordinated with a hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and the carbonyl carbon atom. 2-Cyanopyrazine is oxidized from its initial state through a reaction mechanism involving molecular oxygen or hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant and water as a reductant.
