Product Information
- 2-Hydroxy-6-chlorobenzaldehyde
- 6-Chlorosalicylaldehyde
- 6-Chloro-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde
2-Chloro-6-hydroxybenzaldehyde (2C6HB) is a potent inhibitor of translation. It binds to the ribosome and inhibits the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the A site, thereby blocking protein synthesis. 2C6HB has been shown to inhibit the replication of both RNA and DNA viruses in vitro. It also has a specific affinity for hepatitis B virus, which may be due to its ability to bind with greater affinity than other inhibitors. 2C6HB is synthesised by reacting 2, 6-dichlorobenzaldehyde with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in ethanol. The compound was crystallised from chloroform at room temperature and the data were collected using a Zeiss EM10 electron microscope.
