2-Chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)acetamide (EMPA) is an amide derivative that has been shown to induce apoptosis in cell culture. EMPA induces DNA oxidative damage and cell lysis by binding to hepg2, a protein that is involved in the repair mechanism of cells. This compound is metabolized by rat liver microsomes, which are enzymes found in the liver of rats that help break down drugs. EMPA is not metabolized by human metabolism because it does not bind to human enzymes. It binds to herbicides such as acetamidophenoxypropionic acid and chloroacetamide, which may be due to its structural similarity with these compounds.
