Carvediol is a nonselective beta-adrenoceptor blocking agent and an alpha 1-adrenoceptor blocker. It can be used as a drug, belonging to the class of beta blockers, in the treatment of heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension. Carvedilol has been shown to reduce the risk of death in patients with heart failure and improve symptoms. Furthermore it has an effect on blood pressure by decreasing peripheral vascular resistance and mean arterial pressure. Carvedilol can be metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes and CYP2D6 and CYP2C9 liver enzymes.
