2-Chloro-N-methylacetamide (2CMA) is a linker that can be used to make biologically active compounds. 2CMA has been shown to have a high degree of selectivity for kinases, based on the NMR spectra. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria through its ability to bind metal ions and form hydrogen bonds with amino acid residues in proteins. 2CMA is also used as an amide in the synthesis of fluorogenic probes for use in fluorescence assays. It has inhibitory effects on bacterial growth, which may be due to its ability to cause an increase in proton concentration within cells.
