2-Chloro-N-[2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]acetamide is a synthetic organoheterocyclic compound with the chemical formula of CHClNO. It is the chloro analog of indole. This compound has been used in the synthesis of spengler diketopiperazines and other analogues. 2-Chloro-N-[2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]acetamide has been shown to react with primary amines, such as piperidine, in an alkylation reaction to form substituted indoles. The nitrogen atom on 2CNEA can be acylated or cyclized to form functionalized derivatives, such as N-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)ethyl]-2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanamine (4CNEAE).
