• Description: Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide is a cationic surfactant that is used in analytical methods. It functions as a carrier for nanoparticles and has been used to prepare sephadex g-100, an affinity chromatography matrix. Cetrimide is an organic compound that has antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. The antimicrobial activity can be increased by adding benzalkonium chloride, which inhibits the enzyme cyclase. Cetrimide also has the ability to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial proteins by binding to 16S ribosomal RNA. This protein synthesis inhibition leads to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
