    Product Information

    Name:Calcium 2-aminoethyl phosphate
    Synonyms:
    • Ca-2AEP
    Brand:Biosynth
Description:Calcium 2-aminoethyl phosphate (CAEP) is a phosphatase that belongs to the group of enzymes that hydrolyze phosphate esters. It is used in biochemical research and as a radiographic contrast agent. CAEP has a high affinity for hydroxyapatite, so it can be used to measure alkaline phosphatase levels in serum. The protein's developmental expression is closely related to the phosphatase levels found in bones. There are two forms of CAEP that have been identified: one with an amino acid substitution and another with a deletion of 12 amino acids at the N-terminus. The former form, which may be more active than the latter, is detected primarily in brain tissue and kidney, while the latter form is found predominantly in liver and muscle tissue. CAEP has been shown to cause chondrocalcinosis in family members who have subnormal alkaline phosphatase levels or who have developed this disorder during adulthood.
