1-Cyclopentene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that belongs to the class of acetic acids. It has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and reduce inflammation in animal models. 1-Cyclopentene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid is an isomer of 2,3 cyclopentanedione, which has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. The enantiomers of 1-cyclopentene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid are not active and must be separated through assays or chromatography prior to use.
