2-Chloro-3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde (2C3DMBA) is a chemical compound that has overlapping optimal reaction conditions for the formation of an asymmetric hydrogenation product. 2C3DMBA can be used as a chiral building block for the synthesis of optically active molecules through its derivatization with an amino function and dipole. It has been used in the synthesis of vanillyl alcohol, which is used as a precursor to pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals. 2C3DMBA has been shown to have anticancer properties due to its ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Its use in this application is limited by the fact that it is not active against all cancer cell lines.
