It has been evaluated for its x-ray crystallographic properties, and found to have similar binding affinity to tyrosine kinases as tak-659. 4-Chloro-2-(methylsulfonyl)pyrimidine has also been shown to have permeability in human erythrocytes and an oral bioavailability of 2%. It is a potential candidate for the treatment of various types of cancer, including those that are resistant to currently available drugs, such as chronic myeloid leukemia or acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
