Description:Dibutyl 2-ethylhexanoate is a white, crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents. It is an antioxidant and a chelating agent, which prevents metal ions from reacting with other molecules. Dibutyl 2-ethylhexanoate can be used as a co-stabilizer to improve the chemical stability of polyvinyl chloride and particle board. This compound has been shown to have a high uptake in hydroxyapatite solutions and can be used as a substitute for sodium salts in maleate/chloride systems. Dibutyl 2-ethylhexanoate is also reactive with alkanoic acids such as propionic acid and can be used in organometallic reactions.
Dibutyl 2-ethylhexanoate has been shown to react electrochemically with oxygen at the electrode surface, but not with hydrogen or nitrogen gases.
