2-Chloro-p-phenylenediamine is a chemical that is used in the production of textile, leather, and rubber. It is also used as a dye for textiles, paper, and rubber. 2-Chloro-p-phenylenediamine has been shown to have carcinogenic activity in epidemiological studies. This chemical reacts with chlorine atoms to form reactive intermediates that are involved in the formation of bladder cancer. The reaction rate increases with reaction temperature and light resistance. 2-Chloro-p-phenylenediamine reacts with amines to form nitrosamines which are carcinogenic compounds. 2CPD has been shown to be mutagenic by causing DNA strand breaks in human lymphocytes during cell culture experiments.
