4-Cyano-4-phenylcyclohexanone is a heterocycle that is structurally related to both amines and piperidine. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in rat brain synaptosomes. 4-Cyano-4-phenylcyclohexanone also has anti-depressant effects in rats, which may be due to its ability to inhibit monoamine oxidase A and B. This compound has also been shown to block the action of tachykinins (substance P), and have chemoenzymatic properties.
