4-(Cyanomethyl)benzeneboronic acid pinacolester is a fluorescent organic compound that is synthesized from anhydrous potassium carbonate and pinacol ester. The reaction is catalyzed by the addition of anhydrous potassium carbonate to the pinacol ester in a solution containing bromine. It emits light at a wavelength of 514 nm when excited with ultraviolet light. 4-(Cyanomethyl)benzeneboronic acid pinacolester reacts with potassium in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate to form the corresponding potassium salt and pinacol ester. This reaction may be used for the synthesis of other organic compounds, such as benzaldehyde, which are used in perfumery and flavoring agents.
