Description:
2-Chloro-5-methoxypyrimidine is an industrial chemical that is used to produce other chemicals. It can be prepared by the reaction of tribromide with 2,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde in the presence of a base. The yield of this reaction is optimized by using a solvent extraction method. The pale yellow solid obtained in this process can be purified by recrystallization from methanol.
