5-Chloronaphthalen-1-amine is an organic compound that belongs to the group of aromatic amines. It is used as a building block in the synthesis of other chemicals, including 3-bromosalicylic acid. 5-Chloronaphthalen-1-amine is metabolized in bacteria and soil bacteria through metabolic pathways. The metabolic pathway starts with the conversion of 5-chloronaphthalen-1-amine to 5-chloroacrylonitrile, which then undergoes further reactions to produce 3,4 dichlorobenzaldehyde and 3,4 dichloroaniline. The latter two compounds are converted into 3,4 dichlorophenol and 3,4 dichloroanisole respectively by oxidizing agents such as nitric acid or peroxides. The final products are acrolein and 2 chloroethanol respectively.
