Description:
Cyclopentanecarboxylic acid is a metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan. It is an organic compound that has antimicrobial and antiinflammatory activity. Cyclopentanecarboxylic acid can be synthesized in the body from tryptophan or obtained from food sources such as cheese, eggs, soybeans, and bananas. Cyclopentanecarboxylic acid has been shown to inhibit protease activity and have receptor activity. It is also a precursor for neurotransmitters in the brain and may play a role in psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
