Cadmium sulfate is a compound that has been used for wastewater treatment. It has been shown to be an effective eliminator of cadmium ions and sulfide ions in water. Cadmium sulfate can be used as a fluorescence probe and optical sensor to study the phase transition temperature of metal hydroxides, such as zirconium oxide. This compound can also be used to study the structural analysis of metal hydroxides by laser ablation techniques. Cadmium sulfate can also be used as a synchronous fluorescence agent with zirconium oxide crystals, which allows for thermodynamic data on these crystals to be obtained. Cadmium sulfate is not toxicologically harmful or carcinogenic, but it does have hazardous effects on mucous membranes and lungs if inhaled.
