L-Cysteine sulfinic acid is an enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of taurine to produce cysteine, which is essential for the synthesis of proteins. It also has a number of other functions, including detoxification and antioxidant activity. L-Cysteine sulfinic acid has been shown to have antiviral properties in a model system using human cells infected with HIV. The enzyme is also active against oxidative injury caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) and metal chelate toxicity. L-Cysteine sulfinic acid can be used as a biochemical marker for the presence of infectious diseases due to its high specificity for these types of pathogens. This enzyme can also be used as an analytical tool to determine the presence of sephadex g-100 in blood samples, which are usually used for diagnostic purposes.
